Priority Africa Network Second Annual Ubuntu Awards Program
This was a fantastic event...February 11 marked a time of gathering of diverse people, open bar, food, international guests, new people in town (me, lol) and a fantastic Director who even graced The White House, with an ongoing joke with President Barack Obama and her meeting the dog next time...This event which took place at the prestigious Lake Merritt Hotel, with a breathtaking view of Oakland's lake, which is filled with joggers, tourists (me, lol), dogs and those strolling the vast area around the lake. At night it lights up and is a beautiful setting for an intimate event such as the Ubuntu Awards Dinner.
Priority Africa Network Director is Nunu Kidane, a gracious woman from Euretrea, who displays an instant warmness that makes one feel at ease. I was most interested in the raffle ticket, for $10, to win a trip to Ghana. I have new friends there through Facebook and also have met quite a few in Los Angeles. The Program ran very long but smooth...The keynote speaker was Dr. Yao Graham, Third World Network, Africa, Accra, Ghana. The music was fantastic, getting diners to their feet at times to join in the dancing. Performance was by Ousseynou Kouyate. There was a very nice DJ that also rocked the place after all the speakers...DJ Burt. He is also entertaining for a special Valentine's Day weekend bash on Feb 18th at the Mariner Square Loop in Alameda, California. Not knowing if I will go...Back to dinner...it was fun, I met some interesting people wearing African clothes, not from Africa, and Africans wearing suits, not wearing African clothing...I wore African clothing..and danced the night away, after the Director so graciously invited me to a table...with some negotiated words, of course!
If you can please try to keep up with this organization. I am job searching here in town, am connected to LinkedIn, and would love to work either in the bay area or back to Los Angeles...Some paid ad names in program is The Christensen Fund, Center for African Studies, UC Berkeley, MOAD, Museum of the African Diaspora, AfricaFocus, Akili Dada, Global Exchange, American Friends Service Committee, and thanks to an anonymous individual donor for $4,000! Would I attend next year? Absolutely...unless Ruth, who won the round trip ticket to Ghana, blesses me with it and I am in Ghana at that time...Hmmm..something tells me I will get to Ghana one day!!!

Are You Ready For The Holidays? Y-E-S!
Fancy gloves and stylish boots, everyone is driving, walking, standing, or looking at this magic time of the Holidays. We're in our zone, waiting for the countdown to 2011, which is not very far away. Only days from now...
If you are feeling left out because you don't have a job, you are not alone. But what you may not know is that you have what can get you to your next interview where you hear those magic words, "You're Hired!" You already possess what it takes. You have your smile, your confidence, your ability to put a nice outfit together, your resume, your ability to fill out appications, day in and day out. Don't get discouraged if it's been a while since you've gotten any invitation to interview. It takes time but your time to shine will always come!
Remember that no one can take your place. You do the work, get out there and seek employment, go to the computer lab and apply for jobs, until....then one day, like you, I hope to hear those words, "you're hired!" You are not alone, for the past four weeks I've been out there actively seeking employment almost six days a week, and I'm still out there, looking, asking, seeking...remember seek and ye shall find...
I hope your holidays are filled with a lot of freewill, there's a lot of people out there who have the right spirit of holiday in them...it doesn't cost to give a smile, lend a helping hand to someone coming off the bus...We are all in this together, let's shine together, one by one, shine...then share with those who haven't found their job yet. It too, will come to pass.
Did I light you up to keep going? Keep seeking? Keep job searching? I hope so.
You have something someone else needs; skills, wisdom, knowledge from your past employment, little things that you know that add up to a bigger bottom line for the company, you are valuable...May you ask yourself, "Am I ready for the Holidays?"

A Mother's Love
Poem - Reading - A Mother's Love,

A MOTHER'S LOVE
Can you imagine what life would be life, without a Mother's Love?
Let's look in the 1st Book of Samuel, Chapter 1, verse 11, for an example
of A Mother's Love. Enter Hannah.
'I vow a vow, Lord of hosts, look in my heart, my voice is lost.
Give me a child. I will give him back to you. No razor on his head, oh Lord,
All the days of his life. No razor on his head, oh no', she prayed her soul.
Hannah, a mother who blessed the Lord, and the Lord visited Hannah with so much more!
Hannah conceived and bare 3 sons & 2 daughters
so they could bless the name of their dear Mother.
Let's go now to the Book of Luke, Chapter 1, verse 26, on thru;
Mary was found with child of the Holy Ghost, that must have been scary
But Gabriel the angel of the Lord said to Mary,
'Fear not'
The blessed Savior, Jesus, is who you've got.
So Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ
who later died on Calvary
but in 3 days He rose with all power & might.
Mary, representing A Mother's Love,
Blessed among women from above.
Now we focus on our world today; we are all here on earth
because a woman became our Mother when she gave us birth.
Let's pray that this world is a better place, Because you are here
You, who are Mothers and I,
let's show love to our children & keep our heads to the sky,
For there's nothing like my Mother who showed me so much love.
She was strong & brave
And there's nothing like your Mother who did her best for you
with what she gave
And there's no one like YOU, Mother. You are praised & you are loved.
Smile, speak kind words & keep the word of God on your lips
Authentic Mommy, clothed in grace & style as you dance for swaying your hips!
For your children see you one way, but one day they may have to ask
As your spirit leaves for Heaven above
Could we ever imagine what life would be like, without a Mother's Love?

I'm watching Oprah & Laura Bush is on,
Wow! We are changing lanes & it's exciting
Earlier I watched The View, Oscar Nominee Gabourey, star of movie Precious
Was Barbie pretty and sitting with Whoopi, Joy, Elizabeth & Sherri
Wow! We are changing lanes and it's exciting
The New York Times could breathe again with the capture of
the car bomb suspect
And President Barack Obama didn't receive any criticism
while standing before our Country & taking care of business
Because he is the leader of this world, and our first Black President
Wow! We are changing lanes & it's exciting
The Lakers are playing and I recall the parade I
attended last year when they won the Championship
And Sugar Ray and Moseley just fought May 1st
Who won?
Wow! We are changing lanes & it's exciting
My first script, Janjay, would land me my first paid job
in Hollywood, and The African Channel, registered at The Writer's Guild
Because two prophets of God, called me out 2008 & 2010
to tell me that the God of this universe had a word for me
To write, write, write!

So get a hold of me & hire me to write for you
to help make your dreams come true.
