When I think about my sister, Margaurite, I immediately think of childhood days...
1828 N.E. 1st Avenue - That’s where it all began for us..
I had this female entity reaching out for my hand.
Then she’d say, “Let’s go and sneak up on the big brothers, while they are sleeping in on a Saturday…sneak up and jump on their beds!!!"
That was fun indeed as our Mother already laid out the law that big brothers betta not hit little sisters, only love and protect them. So we shared in the tyrant youth days.
Margaurite was a wonderful soul, who gave us all A sense of what Life could be like,
If we would just stop long enough to be soft in our speaking to each other,
To listen to connect to your loved one in love…
Being raised in a Minister’s home you had to find your fun and we did, as I
followed the orders of my big sister. Not only in that but Margauirte could run! She was always first in the May Day races at Elliot School from 4th to 8th grade. No female could catch her… The races continued as she went to high school, competing in State races and there were trophies along the way and medals which we proudly showed off to our parent’s friends when they came over to the house. I pleasured so much in the medals my sister achieved and although I may have gotten just a few of them she was certainly the star in our home and I gladly cheered her on.
Then as time went on and she went to college as we had already moved to 3200, I was still excited about her accomplishments…Margaurite started a gospel choir as a teen at her high school before but then as a college student she had two choirs going on, playing the piano and co-directing..and the choir members were not your average church going young folk, but your ‘party over here, party over there’ group but
somehow they were drawn to sing God’s praises through my sister’s directing them to ‘just join’.
Margaurite was a wonderful soul, who gave us all A sense of what Life could be like,
If we would just stop long enough to be soft in our speaking to each other,
To listen to connect to your loved one in love…
What can I say about her wedding day? It was fun and they had worked it all out to have it in the Gardens of Washington Park, up in the loquacious hills of old money Portland; It was beautiful and so was Margaurite. But I, the Maid of Honor, and the Best Man who was driving the car from out of town and depended on my vague directions, got lost and got there an hour late. Even though Margaurite was mad she was glad that the wedding could commence and it did without a hitch.
Margaurite was a wonderful soul, who gave us all A sense of what Life could be like,
If we would just stop long enough to be soft in our speaking to each other,
to listen to connect to your loved one in love…
Also as youth we shared the same bedroom and used to play a game until we got yelled at to ‘go to sleep!’ In our separate double beds we would pick a topic like, People in our Neighborhood, then the game was that Margaurite would ask me; “Who am I thinking of right now?” A few clues would follow…At first it was a hard game but as we took turns it was an exercise for us to find out how to train our minds to think the same thoughts…to learn how to know what the other sister was thinking…Little did I know that it would become the strength of our relationship…Although we spent some years apart at certain times we both knew what the other was thinking. Over the years it would be just one look at a church service and I already knew what she was going through or she already knew that I was distracted and she would try to admonish me as our personalities were so different but our thoughts were one. My family never knew this about us…
Now that my sister is gone to be with the Lord I can reflect on those precious moments I had with her as my younger brother so eloquently orchestrated our schedule to help Margaurite get to the other side. Toward the end while sitting at her bedside I sang for my sister those songs that she wrote over the years like “Come Before His Presence,” “Maranatha,” then other songs like “You Are My Hiding Place” and “Bless The Lord, Oh My Soul…”
If anyone wondered why I chose to sing to her it was because of our younger days when we taught each other to connect to one’s mind…And I believe she said to me in her mind, “Sing, Ceneie, Sing.”
As Margaurite gave me that nick name, Ceneie, and although she was once known as Tootie from my last relatives, Here’s the conclusion of this poem…
Margaurite was a wonderful soul, who gave us all A sense of what Life could be like,
If we would just stop long enough to be soft in our speaking to each other,
To listen to connect to your loved one in love…
For Margaurite is now looking down on us from above.
Margaurite, I miss you, I love you, and as I saw you for the last time alive
I gave you a kiss on your forehead and told you, “I’ll See You Later.”
Love, Princene

(Previous) Margaurite walks with God now..........
She wrote a song many years ago,
"Come Before His Presence"
She is now there in His Presence as of today,
January 18, 2006
What I loved about my big sister is that she rallied people to take action to improve situations.
She had a heart of gold and wit as quick as a fox
May she rest in peace in the loving arms of God
I believe I saw her in the spirit, in my imagination waving up to me tonight as I looked out the blinds of my window and Margaurite had a glow and a smile as if she
wanted to communicate to me that "It's alright now!"
Margaurite will be missed on this earth but her past work still carries on. And she left us three amazing adult children and one spectacular child...........
Love is what she gave and love is what God is...........
Margaurite simply gave us what God gave to her...........
May she RIP

I miss my sister already.
Mrs. Coretta Scott King passed away 1/30/06. Wow, with my sister in Heaven now and Mrs. King joining then I know that Heaven is not the same and loved ones up there are rejoicin! This is a reminder that we ought to strive for Heaven by accepting God's plan for our lives through receiving his Son, Jesus Christ through the prompting of The Holy Spirit.
Princene,
So many of us will also miss Marguarite. Yes, she is resting with the Lord.
I send my love to you and your family.
Love Jan
